Im Boot von Erik den Roten sind die Abrafaxe nun schon seit etlichen Tagen gen Westen unterwegs. Obwohl die Fahrt im allgemeinen recht trostlos verläuft, erfahren die Drei so einiges über die Bräuche und Götter der Wikinger, deren höchstes Ziel es ist, dereinst als Helden in Walhalla einzuziehen, um dort mit Odin in der letzten großen Schlacht gegen die von Loki aufgehetzten Riesen zu kämpfen. Durch die lange Fahrt bricht bald an Bord die Seetollheit aus, so daß die Reise mit verbundenen Augen fortgesetzt werden muß, bis die Seefahrer endlich Neuland unterm Bug haben. Beinahe wäre die Erkundung der fremden Küste in einem Gemetzel zwischen Wikinger und Indianern ausgeartet, wenn nicht die Abrafaxe im letzten Moment einen friedlichen Tauschhandel initiiert hätten. So treten die Wikinger fröhlich und reich beschenkt schon bald wieder die Heimreise an. Zwar haben sie kein neues Land erobert, dafür aber neue Freunde gewonnen.
