Auf dem Basar lauschen die Abrafaxe der interessanten Geschichte eines Märchenerzählers. Diese handelt von einem weisen Mann namens Nasreddin, der den Titel eines Hodscha trägt. Als eines Tages der Falke des Kleinfürsten Tumal Garniz das beste Legehuhn des Hodschas als Jagdbeute entführt, rächt dieser sich an den Fürsten, indem er einen fürstlichen Ochsen, auf den sein Rabe gelandet war, ebenfalls als Jagdbeute betrachtet und zu dessen Verschmaus alle Bewohner der Umgebung einlädt. Daraufhin zeigt ihn Tumal Garniz beim Ilchan an, der den Hodscha vorlädt und drei schwierige Aufgaben lösen läßt. Durch die Kraft seines Verstandes befreit sich Hodscha Nasreddin aus dieser gefährlichen Lage. Den Abrafaxen gefällt diese Geschichte so gut, daß das neue Ziel der Drei der Spaßmacher werden soll, um ihn kennenzulernen. Inzwischen wickelt der verschlagene Don Ferrando auch den arglosen Sultan Almansur ein und erhält von diesem sogar einen Ferman - einen Schutzbrief, der dem Besitzer freies Geleit und jede Hilfe verspricht.
