In Eilmärschen begeben sich Abrax und Brabax nach Brünn in Mähren, wo Califax auf der Festung Spielberg den Rest seines Lebens verbringen soll. Mit Hilfe des Füsilier Prohaska, dessen Zeche sie bezahlen, können sich die Abrafaxe in die Festung schleichen. Hier müssen sie hilflos mit ansehen, wie Califax, der gerade angekommen ist, gleich wieder abgeschoben wird. Diesmal führt der Weg zur Festung Munkacz, wohin auch Hans Wurst gebracht werden soll, die jedoch bereits durch den ungarischen Fürst Rakoczi belagert wird. Im Stab der Kuruzenarmee bitten die Abrafaxe den Fürsten, die beiden Gefangenentransporte abzufangen und so ihre Befreiungsversuche zu unterstützen. Nachdem auch noch der Marquis im Stab aufkreuzt, kommt Fürst Rakoczi eine Idee. Sogleich machen sich die Abrafaxe auf den Weg, doch nicht um Califax zu befreien, sondern um ihn mit den Plan den Fürsten vertraut zu machen.
